One of my favorite posts of yours. My favorite line: "Other than the weary Diaspora of memories and letters tucked away or carried about by aging or dying friends, the evidence that my parents worked and loved and married and divorced and fought wars and concluded peace and drank and sobered and laughed and cried and did everything at full human volume only remains here now, in this attic, under the blue burial tarps," followed closely by: "The attic view ranges out past our long expanse of lawn and a majestic oak; it winds along the harbor’s edge and then opens out towards Monhegan, past nameless islands and the cold curvature of open sea."

“An old age deterioration that would not be denied by a premature death in the family”--just one of the many exquisite phrases here. What a beautiful glimpses. I felt I was standing there alongside you, looking out that attic window.

A lovely meditation, Adam. The slow pacing and the absence of heat in your language amplify the impact for me. Thank you.

Oh, Kimberly, that's exactly right. That's exactly what I'm up to. Thank you for getting that. I don't know if you're the first to feel their pulse, but you're the first to say it explicitly.

I'm enjoying my crash course in Musicology, though I may need to go back to 101 before I take your advanced studies.

Love the whole winding journey of this. It's true the crazy things your mind does when you are alone in a place with so many memories.
